Entropion & Ectropion

What is Entroption & Ectropion?

These are conditions affecting the position of the eyelid

• Entropion: The eyelid turns inward, causing the eyelashes to rub against the eye surface. This leads to irritation, redness, tearing, and sometimes damage to the cornea.
• Ectropion: The eyelid turns outward, leaving the inner eyelid exposed and dry. This causes excessive tearing, irritation, and risk of infection.

Symptoms

Entropion:

• Foreign body sensation
• Redness and tearing
• Sensitivity to light
• Frequent eye rubbing

Ectropion:

• Watery eyes
• Dryness and irritation
• Eyelid not touching the eye
• Red or inflamed inner eyelid

Causes

Age-related weakening of eyelid muscles

• Previous eye surgeries or trauma
• Infections or skin conditions
• Congenital (from birth)

Treatment

In mild cases, lubricating eye drops or temporary taping may relieve symptoms. Surgery is the most effective and longterm solution. It involves adjusting the eyelid position and tightening the surrounding muscles and skin
